What a quote covers, how variations work and what to expect financially.
The price depends on camera count, image requirements, cabling access, recorder capacity, mounting conditions, network work and any integration. A site assessment and written quote provide a more reliable price than a generic online package.
We offer no-obligation quote discussions and, where appropriate, a free on-site assessment. The exact inclusions and any conditions are set out in the written quote we provide for your property.
A written quote is based on the scope and site conditions described in it. If you request additional work or an unforeseen condition requires a change, we explain the variation and seek approval before carrying out extra chargeable work.
Our standard terms state that written quotes are valid for 30 days unless the quote says otherwise. Equipment availability and manufacturer pricing can change, so an older quote should be reconfirmed before booking.

A deposit may be required to secure an installation date or order equipment. If so, the amount, due date and treatment of the deposit will be shown in the written quote or invoice.
Unless your written quote says otherwise, the balance is generally due when the agreed work is completed. Payment timing and accepted methods are stated on the invoice.
A standard locally recorded CCTV system does not inherently require a monthly monitoring subscription. Separate cloud, SIM, monitoring or software services may have their own charges, which should be explained before you approve them.
Yes. Tell us the budget range and the areas that matter most. We can discuss staged installation, camera priorities, storage options and upgrade paths without reducing the system to an unsuitable one-size-fits-all package.
Common causes include concealed asbestos, unsafe or inaccessible roof spaces, major cable routes, extra mounting work, power or network upgrades, property changes, additional cameras and equipment substitutions requested after the quote.

Cameras and image quality
Choosing the right camera type, resolution, field of view and night performance.
Resolution should match the distance and detail you need. Higher resolution can help identify faces or number plates at the right distance, but lens choice, lighting, angle, compression and placement are just as important.
4K can be valuable where you need more detail across a wider scene or at a longer identification distance. It also requires suitable storage, network capacity and a camera position that makes use of the extra detail.
Modern cameras can use infrared, low-light or colour-at-night technology. Results depend on ambient light, reflected surfaces, camera settings, lens selection and whether the scene needs visible colour or reliable identification after dark.
Infrared night vision uses invisible infrared illumination and a sensitive sensor to produce a monochrome image in low or no light. Its useful range varies with the camera, scene and surfaces in view.
Colour night vision keeps colour information in very low light by using a sensitive sensor and a wide aperture, sometimes with low-level supplemental lighting. It is not the same as full-colour footage in complete darkness.
A varifocal camera has an adjustable focal length, allowing the installer to tune the viewing angle after mounting. It can be useful where the exact distance or framing needs to be refined on site.
Fixed-lens cameras are often simple and cost-effective when the required view is known. Adjustable or varifocal lenses provide more flexibility for longer driveways, entrances, commercial spaces and changing site conditions.
A wide-angle camera covers more of a scene from a shorter distance. The trade-off is that objects at the edges can appear smaller, so wide coverage should not replace a tighter identification view where detail matters.
They can when the camera, lens, shutter speed, lighting, angle, distance and placement are designed for number-plate capture. A general driveway camera should not automatically be described as a dedicated number-plate camera.
Yes. We can discuss compact camera styles, protective housings and vandal-resistant models where the environment or mounting position calls for them. The best choice depends on visibility, access and the risk of tampering.

Installation and cabling
How installation works in real homes, shops and commercial properties.
A straightforward residential installation may be completed in a day, while larger homes, businesses, multi-storey buildings and difficult cable routes take longer. Your quote and booking discussion should confirm the expected duration.
We aim for neat, protected cable routes and use roof or wall cavities where practical. Some visible surface conduit or cable may be necessary because of the building structure, access, fire requirements or future serviceability.
Yes. Multi-storey work requires careful planning for safe access, cable routes, mounting and weather protection. We assess the building and explain any access equipment or additional work before booking.
You should obtain written permission from the owner, agent or property manager before permanent installation. We can discuss reversible or less invasive options where a landlord does not approve hardwired changes.
Possibly, but strata approval and rules about common property, external walls, cabling and appearance may apply. Obtain the relevant approval before work is scheduled so the proposed installation can be assessed correctly.
An authorised adult should normally be available to confirm camera positions at the start and receive the handover at the end. The booking team can discuss access arrangements for commercial properties or managed sites.
The agreed installation includes leaving the work area reasonably clean and removing normal installation waste. Building repairs, painting or restoration outside the quoted scope should be discussed separately.
Sometimes. Existing pathways are inspected for condition, capacity, compatibility and safe separation from other services. Reusing a pathway is only recommended when it produces a reliable and compliant result.
Yes, using equipment and mounting methods suitable for the environment. Outdoor planning considers weather exposure, glare, insects, cobwebs, lighting, vandalism, condensation and how the camera view relates to neighbouring properties.
The quoted scope normally identifies the equipment and installation materials included. Special access equipment, unusual structural mounting or building works should be identified as separate items if required.

Common priorities are the front door, driveway, garage, side access, rear doors, outdoor entertaining areas and other approach paths. Placement should balance useful identification with privacy, lighting and a clear view.
There is no universal number. A smaller property may need only a few carefully placed cameras, while a larger block, corner site or property with several access paths may need more. Coverage goals should drive the count.
Yes. A camera aimed at the entry, gate or delivery point can help you check activity and review events. Angle it to cover the approach without unnecessarily looking into a neighbour's private space.
Yes. Driveway coverage should account for vehicle approach, lighting changes, reversing angles and the detail needed at the point where a vehicle or person is identified.
Cameras placed behind glass can suffer reflections, glare and infrared bounce-back, especially at night. Exterior mounting or a purpose-designed internal position usually produces a more reliable result.
It can help you see access and activity around outdoor areas, but it is not a substitute for pool fencing, supervision, alarms or other safety measures. Camera angles must also respect privacy.
Often, yes. Compatibility depends on the alarm panel, cameras, recorder and desired event triggers. We can inspect the existing equipment and explain whether integration, parallel operation or replacement is the most practical option.
Many systems support additional users or shared app access. Use individual accounts where available, apply the least access each person needs, and remove access when someone no longer requires it.
Many current systems offer configurable person and vehicle detection. Detection accuracy depends on camera position, lighting, scene activity and settings, so alerts should be tested and tuned after installation.
CCTV can deter, provide awareness and preserve evidence, but no camera system guarantees that an incident will not happen. Layer it with good locks, lighting, access control and an emergency response plan.

Most modern systems support remote viewing through a manufacturer app on a compatible phone or tablet. We configure the app where included in the scope and show you live view, playback and alert basics.
No. A locally connected camera and recorder can usually record without internet. Internet is needed for remote viewing, cloud features, some notifications and remote support.
A correctly configured local recorder can continue recording while remote viewing is unavailable. Once the connection returns, remote access and some notifications may resume, subject to the network and app configuration.
Yes, where the camera and app support notifications. Alerts should be tuned for the scene so you receive useful events rather than notifications caused by shadows, trees, pets or normal activity.
Usually. Camera-by-camera schedules, detection zones and event types can often be configured. The available controls depend on the equipment and app selected for your installation.
Usually, yes, if the recorder is online and remote access is configured. Playback performance depends on upload speed, mobile connection, recorder settings and the amount of footage being requested.
Many systems offer a desktop client or browser access, while others are designed primarily for a mobile app. We can confirm the supported viewing methods for the equipment in your quote.

Recording, storage and network
Understanding NVRs, storage duration, PoE, Wi-Fi and system reliability.
A Network Video Recorder stores and manages footage from network cameras. It can provide recording schedules, playback, user access, event search and remote viewing when configured with a suitable network connection.
A Digital Video Recorder is commonly used with analogue or coaxial camera systems. A DVR may be appropriate for upgrading an existing compatible system, while new installations often use network cameras and an NVR.
Storage depends on camera count, resolution, frame rate, compression, recording schedule, motion settings and hard-drive capacity. We can estimate retention for your design rather than promise a generic number of days.
When a recorder's storage is full, many systems overwrite the oldest recordings automatically. Important footage should be exported promptly because retention settings are not a substitute for evidence backup.
Often, yes, subject to recorder capacity, drive compatibility and the physical installation. A system designed with expansion in mind can make a later storage upgrade simpler.
Power over Ethernet allows compatible network cameras to receive power and data over one Ethernet cable from a PoE switch or recorder. It can simplify installation and provide a stable wired connection.
Wireless cameras can work well where signal, power and network conditions are suitable. Wired PoE is often preferred for fixed installations because it avoids Wi-Fi congestion and battery management, but the property determines the best choice.
Local recording does not normally use internet bandwidth for every camera stream. Remote viewing, cloud recording and off-site backups do use data, with the amount depending on resolution and how often footage is accessed.
The required speed depends on how many cameras are viewed, stream quality and whether footage is live or recorded. A stable upload connection at the property is particularly important for remote viewing.
Without backup power, cameras and recorders normally stop when mains power is lost. A suitable UPS can provide temporary continuity for the recorder, cameras, network equipment or selected parts of the system.

Privacy, audio and legal use
Important practical considerations for using surveillance equipment responsibly in Australia.
Property owners can generally install CCTV, but the way cameras are positioned and used matters. Privacy, surveillance-device, workplace and strata rules can apply, so cameras should be directed at your property and used consistently with applicable law.
A camera may incidentally capture a public area while protecting your property, but deliberately monitoring more of the public area than reasonably necessary can create privacy and compliance concerns. Use privacy masking and careful angles where available.
Cameras should not be aimed at a neighbour's private areas or spaces where people reasonably expect privacy. Adjust the angle, use privacy zones and discuss concerns with the installer before finalising the view.
Audio recording is subject to stricter rules than video in many Australian jurisdictions. We generally recommend disabling audio unless you have confirmed that the proposed use is lawful and appropriate for everyone affected.
Businesses should communicate surveillance practices to staff and consider applicable workplace surveillance, privacy, consultation and signage requirements. The exact obligations depend on the state, workplace and how the system is used.
The answer depends on the situation and applicable law. Clear notice can be a sensible privacy and deterrence practice, especially where visitors, contractors or shared access areas are recorded.

Regular checks can identify dirty lenses, moved cameras, failing storage, network changes, outdated firmware, damaged cable and alert settings that have drifted from what you need.
Outdoor lenses may need cleaning more often because of dust, salt, rain spots, insects and cobwebs. Check image quality regularly and use a soft method that does not scratch the lens or damage seals.
We can assess issues such as failed cameras, recorder problems, cabling faults, app access, storage errors and poor image quality. The available repair depends on equipment age, compatibility and whether replacement is more reliable.
Often, yes. We can assess whether existing coaxial cable and power arrangements are suitable for an upgrade or whether a new network cabling approach will provide a better long-term result.

Warranty, support and handover
What happens after installation, what warranties cover and how to request help.
Our published service terms provide a 12-month workmanship warranty for faults in installation work, in addition to applicable Australian Consumer Law rights. Equipment is covered by the relevant manufacturer's warranty, subject to its terms.
It covers faults in cabling, connections, mounting or configuration performed by our technicians, along with labour to diagnose and repair a covered workmanship fault during the warranty period.
The published terms exclude issues such as accidental or physical damage, vandalism, storms, lightning, power surges, misuse, unauthorised modifications, internet or router problems, consumables and later building works that affect the installation.
The period depends on the manufacturer, model and current product terms. Your quote or product documentation should identify the applicable equipment warranty, and we can help with a claim where the equipment is covered.
